Three mental patients escape from a hospital

KOTA KINABALU: Three mentally ill men of Bukit Padang Friendly Hospital, here escaped by climbing a wall behind the ward at the hospital.

In the incident at about 11am, three patients who receiving treatment at the hospital were identified as Mohd Azrul Dorah, 28; Mohamed Hidswan Jumalti, 34, and Mohammad Sobrie Muali, 32.

Abdullah said the incident came to light after the staff saw one of them climbing a wall behind the ward/

He said after they became aware of the matter,  the hospital staff informed their colleagues and requested the help of security guards to catch the patient.

"However, all three could not be found despite search efforts in the hospital area," he said when contacted on Saturday.

He said a preliminary investigation found that Mohd Azrul was admitted to Mesra Hospital on 17 November for the offence of Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 while Mohamed Hidswan and Mohammad Sobrie were hospitalised on 30 November and 1 December for Section 39C offences.

"All the escaped patients were prisoners involved in the narcotics case and were admitted to Mesra Hospital, Bukit Padang on the orders of the Court in accordance with Section 342 of the CPC on suspicion of having mental problems and were ordered to undergo treatment before being brought back to court," he said.

Mohd Zaidi said while on the run all the suspects were wearing green shirts and in green shorts.
