COVID-19: 36 more deaths recorded, 8 BID

The MOH reported 36 new deaths from COVID-19 infections as of midnight last night.

This brings the total number of deaths due to the pandemic to 30,574 people, from 2.64 million positive COVID-19 cases detected in the country.

According to MOH data on the COVIDNOW portal, eight out of 36 reported deaths occurred outside the hospital or brought-in-dead (BID).

The reported death toll also involved a number of outstanding cases with some of the cases dying a few weeks ago.

This follows the confirmation process of whether a COVID-19 patient died as a result of the pandemic took time.

Meanwhile, there are 62,668 active cases of COVID-19 nationwide.

Of these, 51,062 individuals or 81.5 per cent of them are currently undergoing home quarantine.

A total of 6,124 people were placed in quarantine and treatment centres for COVID-19 (PKRC).

A total of 4,992 cases were treated in hospitals and 490 patients were placed in intensive care units (ICU).

ICU cases involving 221 patients require respiratory assistance and another 269 need ventilators
