A Police inspector was arrested after running amok and injuring police officers in an incident yesterday





Georgetown: An inspector was arrested after running amok and injuring police officers in an incident on Queen Street here, was yesterday remanded for three days until tomorrow.


North East District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Soffian Santong said the 35 -year -old suspect was currently undergoing treatment at the Jalan Perak Psychiatric Specialist Clinic.

being investigated under Section 353 of the Penal Code for using criminal force to intimidate civil servants from carrying out their duties. Further investigations are still ongoing," he said in a statement here today.



Yesterday, it was reported that the suspect was believed to be in a drunken state apart from his right leg being bandaged and uttering abusive words in front of a hotel.



Commenting further, Soffian said, in the incident, his party received a complaint from the public at about 1.30 am.



He said, while at the location, it was found that the suspect was making noise and was believed to be under the influence of alcohol.


“The suspect uttered abusive words as policemen tried to calm him down and refused to cooperate.


“Police officers asked the suspect to go to a nearby police station but the man acted aggressively and fought the members causing injuries to the elbows of both his hands.


"A check found that the suspect, who has the rank of Inspector, was working in Perak and was suspended for disciplinary offenses," he said.
