MELAKA, May 21 — The Melaka Health Department needs about two weeks to confirm the type of virus variant that infected a female teacher who died of Covid-19 on Wednesday.


State Health director Datuk Dr Ismail Ali also rubbished claims that the teacher was infected with a new Covid-19 variant.

He said the genomic surveillance of Covid-19 samples conducted by the Institute for Medical Research (IMR) was to identify and confirm the variant of the virus.

“It is a complex process and takes two weeks,” he said in a statement here today.


Therefore, he called on the people to stop spreading false news regarding the teacher’s death.

shortness of breath starting May 17.

“At 5am on May 19, the deceased was found unconscious. She was immediately sent to the Melaka Hospital, given respiratory assistance and admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for further treatment.

“The result of her Covid-19 RT-PCR test was positive and her condition deteriorated before she died on May 19, at 11.40pm,” he said. — Bernama

MELAKA: Punca kematian seorang guru wanita yang berkhidmat di Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) (P) Methodist 2 di sini masih belum disahkan akibat Covid-19, tidak seperti dakwaan yang tular sejak semalam di media sosial.

Bercakap kepada Utusan Malaysia, Pengerusi Jawatankuasa Kesihatan dan Anti Dadah negeri, Datuk Rahmad Mariman berkata, kes berkenaan kini dalam siasatan Kementerian Kesihatan bagi mengenal pasti sebab sebenar kematian.

Katanya, oleh itu, orang ramai diminta tidak menyebarkan sebarang spekulasi melangkaui maklumat sahih daripada pihak berwajib demi mengelakkan timbul suasana cemas dalam kalangan masyarakat.

“Saya belum dapat pengesahan. Kes masih dalam siasatan sebab kematian mangsa. Jika sudah pasti kerana Covid-19 baru Kementerian Kesihatan akan umum,” katanya ketika dihubungi.

Tular di media sosial berkenaan satu tangkap layar perbualan WhatsApp yang menyatakan guru tersebut, Nurul Naim Omar meninggal dunia disebabkan serangan Covid-19 varian baharu yang lebih berbahaya.

Allahyarhamah yang juga guru matematik di sekolah itu dikatakan telah pergi mendapatkan rawatan di hospital kerana demam pada pukul 9 pagi, namun menghembuskan nafas terakhir dua jam kemudian.

Dakwanya lagi, hasil ujian calitan juga menunjukkan mangsa didapati positif Covid-19 dan menghidapi sesak nafas ketika sedang melakukan sesi pengajaran dan pembelajaran di rumah (PdPR). -UTUSAN ONLINE
