Found guilty of drug abuse, Farid Kamil gets nine months in jail

PETALING JAYA: A magistrate's court here has sentenced actor Datuk Farid Kamil Zahari to nine months in jail and ordered for him to be put under the surveillance of National Anti-Drugs Agency (AADK) for two years after finding him guilty of using drugs.

The magistrate did not allow a stay of execution pending an appeal, meaning the 38-year-old actor would have to serve his time in Kajang Prison starting from the date of sentencing.
Farid was supposed to enter his defence today by way of testimony under oath but chose to remain silent instead.
He was charged with using "11-nor-delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol-9-carboxylic acid" or THC drugs at the narcotics office, Petaling Jaya district police headquarters at 4.30pm on Jan 11, last year.
The charge under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 carries a maximum two years imprisonment or a RM5,000 fine or both upon conviction.
DPP Alia Sumayyah Amran prosecuted, while Farid was represented by lawyer Megat Syazlee Mokhtarom.
