RM11mil syabu seized in Tawau, man arrested

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah police seized over 300kg of suspected methamphetamine (or syabu) worth almost RM11 million after a car chase in Tawau in what is believed to be the biggest drug bust in the state this year.
The driver of the car, a local businessman, was arrested.
Police also seized RM5,000 cash from the 49-year-old suspect during the anti-narcotics operation at 7.30pm on Sept 6 in the Mambuala area in the east coast Tawau district.
Sabah police chief Idris Abdullah said his men also found RM22,000 in the man’s house and froze his bank account containing more than RM95,000.
Acting on a tip-off earlier, the police intercepted a 4WD vehicle said to be transporting the drugs.

were able to catch the suspect at Kampung Batu Payung after a brief chase and arrested him,” he told reporters in Tawau today.
Idris said 12 bags containing 290 tea packets with the wording “Guanyingwang Vang”, which contained the drugs, were found in the vehicle.
He said the drugs weighed approximately 303kg and had a street value of some RM10.9 million.
“It is believed the suspect was trying to smuggle the drugs to a neighbouring country,” he said, adding the drugs could easily supply 1.5 million drug addicts.
