KUALA LUMPUR: All Members of Parliament, including the opposition, will be given an equal allocation for the period ending this year, said Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Special Duties) Mastura Mohd Yazid, today.

Mastura also told the Dewan Rakyat that the decision to provide equal allocation for government and opposition MPs for Sept to Dec, as agreed by Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

Understanding (MoU) on Transformation and Political Stability signed by the government and Pakatan Harapan (PH), earlier this month, also included a condition for equal allocation between government and opposition MPs, although previously, it was limited to those who 'joined' the agreement.

In her speech at the winding up of the Titah Diraja debate, Mastura said Putrajaya took note of suggestions from MPs who wanted allocations to be given regardless of the government bloc, or the opposition.

Among the MPs who expressed the desire were Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman (Independent - Muar); Azis Jamman (Warisan-Sepanggar); Nazri Aziz (BN-Padang Rengas); and Abdullah Sani Abdul Hamid (PH-Kapar).

“Allocations for parliamentary constituencies represented by the government and opposition MPs at different rates before this are based on policy. It also depends on the financial position of the government.

"The Prime Minister is committed to implementing the transformation of Parliament, and for that reason, I would like to inform this esteemed house that for the remaining four months of this year, the Prime Minister has agreed to provide equal allocation to all MPs, whether from the government or the opposition," Mastura said.
