A total of 204 out of 453 staff stationed at the Ideal Convention Centre (IDCC) Covid-19 vaccination centre (PPV) in Shah Alam, Selangor were confirmed positive of Covid-19.

According to Science, Technology and Innovation Minister and coordinator of the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme (PICK) Khairy Jamaluddin, a mass screening was conducted on IDCC staffers after two volunteers were identified positive on 10 July.

Khairy explained that 88% of those working at IDCC had been vaccinated and that those determined to be infected had a low viral load – meaning that the chances of them transmitting the virus is low.

He added that the Covid-19 Immunisation Task Force (CITF) will be sending people over to the IDCC today (13 July) to inform the public of its closure to allow for sanitization works.

IDCC staffers would also be isolated and replaced with a fresh batch of people as a precautionary measure against infections. KJ says that the facility’s ventilation system would also be inspected.

Vaccinations at the IDCC will continue as soon as possible.

PPVs across the country are advised to follow Covid-19 standard operating procedures (SOP) to the letter to ensure the health and safety of everyone involved.

Earlier, it was announced that the IDCC will be closed temporarily and that the public would be informed of their rescheduled vaccine appointment date through the MySejahtera app or SMS.

KJ advised members of the public who were present at the facility between 9 and 12 July to observe personal quarantine measures for at least ten days and get themselves tested if they are showing symptoms of Covid-19.

The CTIF also issued the same advice to those who attended IDCC between 29 June to 12 July and seek immediate attention if they show signs of infection.
