More mega PPVs in Klang Valley to expand vaccine dispensing capacity - Khairy

KUALA LUMPUR, May 30 -- Several more mega-sized vaccination centres (PPVs) will be set up in the Klang Valley to expand the capacity of dispensing vaccine from June 7.

National COVID-19 Immunisation Programme Coordinating Minister Khairy Jamaluddin said three mega PPVs would be put up in Selangor and two more in Kuala Lumpur.

“The COVID-19 Immunisation Task Force (CITF) has decided to raise the capacity of vaccination in the Klang Valley. I have already informed the Selangor Menteri Besar.

“In Selangor, we have three mega PPVs at The Mines, Puncak Alam UiTM and Setia City Convention Centre while in Kuala Lumpur, they are at Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre and the compound of the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil,” he said after visiting the PPV at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC) today.

Khairy said more vaccination stations and halls would be opened at the PPV in MITEC which will be starting operation tomorrow to launch mega-scale dispensing of vaccine.

He said the daily vaccination capacity for the PPV at MITEC tomorrow is more than 2,000 but he is targeting the location to accommodate more than 6,000 shots per day.

He said he would be going to Penang and Johor next week to discuss opening mega PPV in the two states.

On drive-through vaccination, Khairy said he would be issuing the order and guidelines tomorrow to all states which want to implement the system.

Khairy said several states have already requested for approval to carry out system following encouraging response to the pilot drive-through vaccination project at Universiti Sains Malaysia Kubang Kerian, Kelantan.

"I will give instructions tomorrow following the successful pilot study. Other states can also implement the drive-thru, but I have requested for 24 hours (to give out) the guidelines.

"We must have safety guidelines in place. Not just drive-through, jab and go home. Need to have observation period. It's a good idea and we have thought about it," he said.

5 new mega PPVs will be opened around Klang Valley from 7th June. This will accelerate our vaccination efforts. I will be in Penang and then Johor to identify the mega PPVs there as well.

500 GPs will begin vaccination on 15th June and 1,000 GPs by end of June. This also means by then, GPs and private hospitals would be able to administer 40,000 doses of vaccine per day.

We also have piloted the drive-thru vaccination at HUSM Kubang Kerian recently and it was successful. We’ve received applications from other states who are interested to do the same. We are fine tuning the guidelines to implement this.
