KUALA LUMPUR: Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) has denied allegations that it is waiting for PKR President Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to fulfil his seven-day promise as reported by a news portal on Wednesday.

Amanah Communications Director, Khalid Abdul Samad said the portal report clearly intended to pit his party against Anwar.

"The recent Amanah National Committee meeting only decided that Amanah appreciated Anwar's willingness to take responsibility for what happened in the Dewan Rakyat on November 26.

"However, we have also agreed to discuss with our coalition partners on what to do next after the event.

"Therefore, it is not true at all to say that Amanah has given an ultimatum to its partners in Pakatan Harapan.

"It is not Amanah’s culture to give an ultimatum to its coalition partners,” he said in a statement on Wednesday.

Earlier, The Malaysian Insight portal reported that Amanah had agreed to give Anwar a chance to fulfil his promise to resign as Pakatan Harapan Chairman and Opposition Leader after failing to overthrow the Perikatan Nasional (PN) government within seven days after the presentation of the 2021 Budget.

The report cited an undisclosed source as explaining the agreement was reached at the party's national leadership committee meeting on Sunday night.
