PERAK TENGAH: The decision to grant some 400ha of land to a newly-formed company for a forest plantation development project at Kledang Saiong Forest Reserve was based on the experience of its management, not the year it was set up, says Perak Mentri Besar, Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu (pic).

Ahmad Faizal said the company in question had the relevant experience and has worked with the Malaysian Timber Industry Board to develop unproductive areas.

He said the decision was also based on the explanations and recommendations provided by relevant government department heads.

“I don’t know the two directors, but based on their experience and their work with the Forestry Department, we approved the project.

for consideration,” he told a press conference after presenting keys to the recipients of 99 affordable homes in Seri Iskandar here on Tuesday (Feb 12).

“We don’t look at when the company was formed; it could be a company set up 100 years ago but managed by a 18-year-old.

“It’s the same with a new company, but managed by experienced people at the helm,” he added.

Kampar MP Thomas Su has on Monday (Feb 11) questioned the state in granting the 400ha land to a company set up in July last year, months after the 14th General Election.

Su had lodged a report with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) today on the alleged irregularities for two projects, one at Kledang Saiong Forest Reserve and the other in Bukit Kinta Forest Forest.

On the report lodged by Su, Ahmad Faizal said he hoped the MACC would investigate the matter thoroughly.

He said the state would cooperate with the investigations and to improve itself should there be any weaknesses with its administration.

“We at Pakatan Harapan want to see change, and to undo the damage done by previous administration.

“If there are weaknesses, we will improve on it,” he said.
