Najib: I don’t know of gaming company sponsoring police trip

Former prime minister Najib Razak says he is curious as to how a trip in 2019 could be approved in 2017.
PETALING JAYA: Najib Razak has denied any knowledge of a gaming company sponsoring a police working trip overseas during his tenure as prime minister.
He was referring to remarks made by Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng that the recent trip to Istanbul, Turkey by the police top brass had been approved by the Barisan Nasional (BN) government in 2017.
“Yesterday, Guan Eng proudly said the cost of the trip was borne by taxpayers. He also said the trip was sponsored by Da Ma Cai.
“After being criticised, he is now playing tai chi and blaming BN again.
“In my tenure as prime minister, I have never heard of a gaming company sponsoring a police working trip. I am also curious as to how a trip in 2019 can be approved two years before, in 2017,” he said in a Facebook post

Earlier today, Lim said the trip was approved by the previous administration.
This comes after Umno Youth chief Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said Da Ma Cai’s sponsorship of the delegation to Turkey led by Inspector-General of Police Mohamad Fuzi Harun was insensitive to Muslims.
Najib also questioned why the goods and services tax (GST), people’s aid and all mega projects can be abolished in the nine months since Pakatan Harapan (PH) took power but the trip could not be cancelled.
“If it is not Najib’s fault, it is BN’s fault. If it is not BN’s fault, it’s Najib’s fault.
“What is Guan Eng trying to do exactly? Or does he even know what he is saying?” the Pekan MP asked.
It was reported that the delegation was in Turkey to learn about policing online gambling.
Whistleblower site Sarawak Report had published pictures of Fuzi and senior police officers on their trip, saying over RM300,000 was spent on business class flights and five-star hotel accommodation.
Yesterday, Lim said the trip was paid for by Da Ma Cai after Home Minister Muhyiddin Yassin said it was approved by the Malaysian Totalisator Board, a body under the finance ministry.
