KUALA LUMPUR: The Ministry of Finance announced the change of the Official Vehicle of Office (KRJ) for Federal Ministers from proton Perdana 2.4 Premium to Toyota Vellfire 2.5L.
In a statement, the Ministry of Finance (MoF) said the KRJ change decision was made among others based on lower rental costs of the Toyota Vellfire 2.5 compared to the Proton Perdana 2.4 Premium.
With the rental schedule included, the rental rate for Toyota Vellfire 2.5 was RM4,851.61 per month compared to RM4,854.41.
The proposed replacement of Proton Perdana cars to other vehicles such as Vellfire was actually considered during the previous Government administration but was postponed and only implemented this year.
"The KRJ age for the Cabinet before this year's replacement has reached the age of 6 while the KRJ replacement for the Cabinet is actually scheduled every 4 years," the statement said.
Previously the issue of KRJ exchanges for Federal Ministers was discussed on social media after being raised by The New Bayan MP, Sim Tze Tzin.
Through his oral question in the House of Representatives, Sim asked the Minister of Finance, Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz about the cost of providing Vellfire as the official car for the minister since March 2020, and the monthly cost of leasing the luxury vehicle from the concessionaire, Spanco.
Sim said most of the ministers currently holding positions in the Cabinet are those who were against the Pakatan Harapan (PH) government for considering proposals to change official vehicles.
