LUMPUR: The Ministry of Health (MOH) reported a total of 70 new deaths from COVID-19 infections as of midnight last night.

This brings the total number of deaths due to the pandemic to 29,045.

According to MOH data on the COVIDNOW portal, a total of 15 out of 70 reported deaths occurred outside the hospital (brought-in-dead or BID).

The reported deaths also involved a number of outstanding cases with some of the cases dying a few weeks ago following a process that took time to confirm whether a COVID-19 patient died as a result of the pandemic.

Meanwhile, there are 66,862 active cases of COVID-19 nationwide of which 51,472 individuals or 77 percent are currently quarantined at home.

A total of 8,988 people were placed in the COVID-19 Quarantine and Treatment Centre (PKRC).

A total of 5,845 cases were treated in hospitals and 557 patients were placed in intensive care units (ICU).

The ICU case involved 257 patients needing respiratory assistance and another 300 needed a ventilator.
