cases of COVID-19 treated in hospitals and 542 patients in the ICU. 

KUALA LUMPUR: The Ministry of Health (MOH) reported 45 new deaths from COVID-19 infections as of midnight last night.

This brings the total death toll from the pandemic to 29,937, out of 2.57 million positive COVID-19 cases detected in the country.

According to MOH data on the COVIDNOW portal, seven out of 45 reported deaths occurred outside the hospital or brought-in-dead (BID).

The reported death toll also involved a number of outstanding cases with some of the cases dying a few weeks ago.

This follows the confirmation process of whether a COVID-19 patient died as a result of the pandemic took time.

Meanwhile, there are 68,637 active cases of COVID-19 nationwide.

Of these, 54,174 individuals or 78.9 per cent are currently undergoing home quarantine.

A total of 8,268 people were placed in the COVID-19 Quarantine and Treatment Centre (PKRC).

A total of 5,653 cases were treated in hospitals and 542 patients were placed in intensive care units (ICU).

The ICU case involved 274 patients requiring respiratory assistance and another 268 needed a ventilator.
