KUALA LUMPUR: Any dismissal of an individual from the UMNO Supreme Working Council (MKT) must go through the meeting of the MKT itself, said the party's former secretary-general, Tan Sri Annuar Musa.
In a latest post on his personal Facebook, the Member of Parliament for Ketereh stressed that the action of UMNO President, Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who announced the impending sacking of the two UMNO leaders without due process, was unwise.
Moreover, he was of the view that the action will only raise more questions and in turn tarnish the name of the party.
“Many were surprised when the president (Ahmad Zahid) announced that two MKT members would be sacked because they were said to have leaked the secrets of the council meeting. Speculation began to hover, who is the MKT member... a man and a woman.
“I can't guess who, moreover I have not attended the MKT since I was sacked by the president from the post of Barisan Nasional secretary-general.
“According to the rules, disciplinary cases have to go through a hearing process before the Disciplinary Board. For MKT members, it can be judged by the MKT meeting itself,” he added.
A source, however, informed that one of the individuals was a state UMNO liaison chairman.
Meanwhile, Sinar Harian reported that Ahmad Zahid made the announcement in front of the division heads and the Youth and Puteri wings in Melaka.
Commenting further, Annuar said, he saw the action as biased, as there were MKT members who often wrote about the meeting in public but were not subject to any action.
"I am confident that they will not be sacked for reasons that everyone knows. I can only pray that the leadership remains calm and peaceful. My concern is when I see the party getting cracked, lacking in direction and heading nowhere.
"We are seen to be full of problems, quarrelling with everyone and eventually quarrelling with each other.
“The real political enemies, however, have not been attacked,” he added.
