Indonesia: New COVID-19 cases exceed 8,000

JAKARTA, Dec 3 -- The number of new cases of COVID-19 infection in Indonesia has for the first time, exceeded 8,000 within a period of 24 hours, since the first case was detected on March 2.
The 8,369 new cases recorded across the republic have brought the total number to 557,877.
The highest number of new cases recorded previously was 6,267 on Nov 29.
Based on information on the official Twitter account of the Indonesian National Agency for Disaster Management (BNPB) today, 462,553 patients have recovered while 69,027 more were under monitoring.
Between noon yesterday and noon today, 156 deaths were recorded, bringing the tally in the republic to 17,355.
Jakarta province has recorded the highest number of positive cases so far with 140,238 including 1,153 new cases, and East Java the highest accumulated number of fatalities with 4,493.
