MACC gets consent from AGC to charge Zahid over foreign visa system graft case

PUTRAJAYA: Former deputy prime minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi is set to be charged for several counts of bribery in the foreign visa system (VLN) case on Wednesday (June 26).

Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) said it has received consent from the Attorney General's Chambers to charge the Umno president.
“Dr Ahmad Zahid will face several charges in both courts under Section 16 (a)(B) of the MACC Act 2009 and Section 165 of the Penal Code," it said in a statement on Tuesday (June 25).
The charges will be filed at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court on Wednesday and the Shah Alam Sessions Court on Thursday (June 27).
The MACC also confirmed that it had arrested Dr Ahmad Zahid on Monday (June 24) when he came to the headquarters at 10am for questioning.
The Bagan Datuk MP was then released on MACC bail.
